FUCHUN VILLA

The demonstration area is located in Hangzhou’s Fuyang District, the cultural origin of Huang Gongwang’s renowned painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains. Inspired by Song-style landscape aesthetics and infused with contemporary residential functions, it builds 3D landscapes for roaming, living, and quiet retreat.

The entrance features an approximately 60-meter-long architectural facade inspired by traditional pavilions, where graceful upturned eaves and refined craftsmanship establish a ceremonial arrival experience. The grille at the entrance filters natural light and shadow and the dragon-scale water feature is carved from solid stone. The symmetrically arranged pines stand on both sides like gentlemen of the mountains and waters, quietly welcoming visitors. The entrance courtyard follows the traditional Chinese “Si Shui Gui Tang” courtyard design. The feature walls combine landscape stone with horizontal grain, translucent jade stone, and yellow flower ice jade stone, with soft diffused light passing through the materials to create a serene and elegant atmosphere.

Entering the main hall, an expansive horizontal window frames the distant mountains, sculptural rocks, and flowing water into a classic three-section composition found in Song Dynasty landscape paintings, allowing residents to experience the pleasure of wandering through landscapes while remaining indoors.

The 25-meter-wide sunken courtyard adopts a golden-ratio layout, integrating an arched bridge, pine trees and rocks, stepping stones, and cascading waterfalls into a unified landscape. Native stone paving recreates the texture of natural mountain rock. The site leverages its natural elevation changes to create private dining spaces. Deep-toned mountain rocks and cascading water unfold in layers, echoing the surging currents of the Fuchun River and creating a garden that unfolds a new sight with every step.

The winding rock walls naturally guide the circulation, while hillside pavilions and corridors provide resting points for scenic appreciation. The “Huanbi Long Corridor” embraces the entire water courtyard, forming a meandering trail that winds through the mountain ravine. At the end of the journey, the homecoming lane interprets the waves of the river through raked gravel patterns inspired by Japanese dry landscape gardens. Minimalist landscaping captures the elegance of Song-style aesthetics, transforming an ordinary walk home into an immersive scenic landscape walk.
