Changan Automobile Global R&D Center Phase II

Located in the Yuzui area of Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area, the second phase of Changan Automobile Global R&D Center is developed by Changan and managed by Greentown Management. The complex comprises three core components: the Design Center, the Advanced Technology R&D Center, and the Operations and Services Hub.

Guided by the philosophy of "Wisdom in Circle, Conduct in Square," the design brings together the artistry of automotive design and the rigor of scientific research within a single architectural language. The concept draws from the vast imagery of the starry cosmos, with the circle as the dominant motif, clusters of rounded forms scattered across the site like constellations, symbolizing Changan's enduring pursuit of what lies ahead.

The Design Center embodies a balance of circle and square. Horizontally expansive, it employs bold contrasts of solid and void, and a symmetrical composition, creating a sanctuary for automotive design. The Advanced Technology R&D Center nestles into the sloping terrain, its elongated base expressing openness and stability, while vertical rhythmic lines rise like musical notes, capturing the dynamic energy of cutting-edge innovation.

The site sits atop a plateau, bordered by cliffs on three sides. A multi-ground-floor strategy subtly resolves the elevation changes, integrating the architecture into the mountainous terrain without disruption. Incorporated into the landscape is a section of ancient city wall, creating a dialogue between past and present, a spatial intersection of time that echoes Changan's journey from heritage to future. An east-west viewing corridor offers sweeping panoramas of the city beyond. Paired with rooftop gardens, it forms a layered observation experience-outward, boundless views; inward, a space that holds everything.
