About The Entry
Located in Minhang District, Shanghai, the project is adjacent to an urban waterfront ecological corridor. By deeply exploring the local Haipai (Shanghai-style) cultural heritage and integrating the site’s original riverine ecological foundation, the design revitalizes local identity through cultural reinterpretation, reconnects fragmented urban spaces through ecological restoration, and creates human-centered living environments. It seeks a balance between high-density urban development and ecological open spaces, establishing a contemporary residential landscape system that integrates community vitality, ecological sustainability, and livable experiences.
The design extracts local elements including Haipai architectural language, traditional Shanghai lilong (lane-house) urban fabric, and distinctive lifestyles. Through symbolic abstraction, narrative spatial experiences, and the metaphorical use of local materials, the project translates urban cultural memories into landscape spaces. Centered on healthy living, it creates inclusive, vibrant, and socially interactive community environments. Meanwhile, the waterfront ecological resources are introduced into the residential area, extending natural vitality inward and shaping a garden-like, resilient, and sustainable living community.
