About The Entry
Velora originated from a personal motivation rooted in drumming practice. Traditional drum stools are often treated as purely functional equipment, with limited attention to visual identity or the physical demands of long sessions. This project rethinks the drum stool as both a support tool and an extension of the musician’s posture and performance presence.
The design combines a sculptural rigid base with a breathable lattice seat. The main structure is made from PHA, a bio-based thermoplastic that offers a more sustainable alternative to conventional plastics while maintaining stability and a clean form. The seat cushion uses TPU in a lattice configuration, improving airflow, flexibility, and long-term sitting comfort.
Velora also introduces a personalized seating approach. By translating pressure-mapping data into variations in lattice density, the cushion can be adapted to different users, creating a more precise balance of support and comfort.
While developed for drumming, the design is also suitable for other active seating scenarios that require stability, posture awareness, and upper-body freedom.
By integrating form, ergonomics, sustainability, and customization, Velora reframes the drum stool as both functional equipment and an expressive design object.
