Most cat owners face the same dilemma: conventional scratch posts made from corrugated cardboard degrade rapidly with use and require frequent replacement, while visually clashing with thoughtfully designed interiors. Single-species cat trees occupy precious floor space. TOTEM FOR TWO resolves this conflict by treating human-pet cohabitation as a fundamental philosophy—the belief that a home shared with a cat should not make concessions.

Each piece integrates a vertical scratch column directly into its load-bearing structure. The column is not an add-on; it is the furniture. Cats instinctively scratch and grip the meticulously crafted felt modules—spheres, cones, and cylinders in red, cobalt blue, and forest green. These components are built via a stacked layering process, creating a deeply textured surface that mimics the rugged, organic bark cats love to scratch, alternating with sisal-wrapped sections. Humans use the exact same object as a fully functional home piece: a side surface, ambient light, or a storage bedside table. One object. Two lives. Zero compromise.

The interchangeable felt modules are independently replaceable. When a single module wears, only that component is swapped, eliminating the full-replacement waste cycle. High-density, layered felt significantly outlasts conventional cardboard or rope, extending the product’s lifespan. The modular logic also introduces a DIY dimension: reordering components produces entirely different visual compositions over time.

Constructed entirely from metal, high-density layered felt, and wood, the system uses standardized parts. The visual language draws from Memphis Milano—bold geometry, saturated color, and deliberate playfulness—elevating pet furniture into serious residential design.
