Inspiration & Concept

My project originated from a specific observation in the urban environment: an electrical box built around a living tree. Rather than removing the tree, the design accommodated its presence, leaving space for it to grow through the structure. This subtle act of adaptation sparked my exploration of human-nature relationships—shifting from opposition toward coexistence through mutual adjustment.

Research & Natural Systems

Focusing on the theme of "human-nature symbiosis," I turned to botanical systems for inspiration. Studying vines, lichen, and moss, I analyzed their modes of growth—how they intertwine, attach, connect, and share space. These natural models offer a dynamic and balanced form of coexistence, while also providing a rich visual language for material exploration.

Material & Technique Development

Rather than directly replicating plant forms, I abstracted their growth behaviors, organizational structures, and textural qualities, translating them into textile experiments. Using wool felting, crochet, and natural dyeing, I captured the interdependence and co-growing nature of plants through the intertwining, layering, and connecting of fibers.

Integration & Final Expression

In the later stages, I mapped plant growth trajectories onto the human body, exploring how organic forms can extend and evolve on a living surface. The final body of work expresses a vision of interdependence and shared evolution—affirming that humans and nature are not opposing forces, but a single living system capable of sharing space and growing together.
