Mountain Peak Hotel

The hotel is located in Zhaxi Zong Township along National Highway 318, within the core protected area of Mount Everest, at an altitude of 4,300 meters. Restricted by the region’s harsh natural environment and ecological protection regulations, the project is based on the snow-covered landscapes and Tibetan culture, exploring modern design expressions that create harmony between architecture, nature, and local culture.

The design delves into Tibetan settlement patterns, plateau landforms, and nature worship culture, using traditional Tibetan courtyards as the core design prototype. Courtyards are a wise adaptation to the high-altitude climate made by Tibetan ancestors, serving as the central space for daily life and spiritual activities. The project modernizes this concept, integrating it throughout the building clusters to balance privacy and openness, interpreting the Tibetan idea of inward gathering and coexistence of humans and gods.

The total building area is approximately 13,000 square meters, including guest rooms and commercial facilities, with 84 rooms in total arranged in multiple courtyard layouts. The architecture upholds a minimalist symbiotic philosophy, using natural materials like clay bricks, metal, and cement blocks, and continuing native Tibetan tones like earthy gray and snowy white, combined with simple lines and abstract Tibetan decorations. The landscape leverages native plants and stones to preserve the plateau’s original ecological features to the greatest extent.

Indoor spaces blend Tibetan aesthetics, simplifying and reinterpreting Tibetan coffered ceilings, traditional patterns, and thangka reliefs; guest rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows facing the snow-covered meadows, while the signature sunny restaurant uses glass walls to bring in natural light. Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the hidden beauty at the foot of Everest, where architecture, culture, and nature intertwine.
