About The Entry

"The Rice Paddy" is an 82.6 square meters space renovation of a 17-year-old apartment. Centered on the concept of "Designing a home that replaces loneliness with companionship," the designer re-imagined how a home for single living could extend beyond functionality to offer emotional grounding.

The name, "The Rice Paddy", symbolize years, hinting at the steady accumulation of time and symbolizing a home's long-term companionship. The gently bent silhouette of wheat stalks echoes the soft lines of the curved ceiling, while the layered grains along the stem inspire the intricate textures of the travertine and tile work.

The social area uses continuous curves to connect the living room, dining space, and hallway, with hidden lighting strips following these contours to let light flow with the rhythm of daily life. The dressing room merges display, storage, and ambient lighting, while the study serves multiple roles for work, reading, rest, and guests—allowing a compact footprint to transition naturally according to daily intuition. As morning sun, afternoon shadows, and evening lights take their turns, life accumulates like grain, filling the home with the richest moments of everyday living.
