About The Entry

As a key project under the Jiangsu Provincial North-South Pair-Assistance Initiative, the landscape design of this project adopts three core strategies: carbon sequestration through vegetation planting design, energy conservation and emission reduction enabled by smart energy systems, and full integration of sponge-city concepts into site development.

During implementation, distributed renewable-energy infrastructure was deployed across the entire site, including photovoltaic (PV) carport canopies and smart streetlights. Throughout the design phase, priority was given to permeable ecological pavement aggregates as well as low-carbon and eco-friendly materials. A dedicated rainwater harvesting and conveyance system was installed to effectively regulate surface runoff and improve hydrological performance. Low-carbon principles are subtly embedded in landscape details. Artistic design techniques are applied to highlight the partnership between Wuxi and Lianyungang, demonstrating the vitality of this park as a benchmark for green-technology demonstration. The project has obtained the national special designation for “Near-Zero-Carbon Park Design”, and its key sponge-city technologies have been granted national invention-patent certification.

Conceptually, the design draws upon the metaphor of Wuxi and Lianyungang’s “north-south collaboration and joint development.” At ground level, the core nodes feature undulating green topography that conveys a dynamic sense of progression and upward momentum; viewed from above, the layout reveals two clasped hands, vividly symbolizing regional cooperation. The design draws on the classical Jiangnan garden aesthetic, employing strategic hardscape composition, featuring Black Pine as a sculptural focal point, and integrating reflective water features that mirror the sky—evoking the oriental spatial poetics of “mountain-water dialogue and sky-water unity.” The primary circulation spine and extensive paved areas echo the coastal character of Lianyungang, utilizing wave-gradient pavement patterns to introduce a seaside sensibility. Culturally, motifs derived from regional symbols—including the orchid, “Jade Flying Phoenix,” and “Jade Flask”—have been abstracted into custom site identity elements. Thoughtfully integrated into landscape furnishings, wayfinding signage, and pavement inlays, these details endow the site with distinctive artistic character and cultural depth.
