About The Entry

MAXIMUS redefines the fitness typology through a 3,200m² renovation that fuses competitive spirit with Eastern elegance. The brand name and philosophy—inspired by protagonist of the film "Gladiator" and the notion of “maximum”—manifests in a dynamic blue accent derived from the visceral sensation of power and speed.

The design addresses two primary constraints: a non-removable central concrete cylinder and limited natural daylight. Rather than concealing these conditions, the plan uses the cylinder to anchor a circular, arena-like circulation path that clearly separates high-energy training zones from quiet recovery areas. Meanwhile, the existing floor is back-filled and surfaced with high-wear turf, creating a daylight-flooded, all-weather functional fitness zone. Together, they form a seamless “competition–recovery–transformation” journey.

The material palette prioritizes structural honesty, leaving concrete beams and building services exposed without secondary finishes. This rugged industrial base is balanced by low-saturation wood-grain panels, reserved exclusively for the rest and Pilates zones to introduce warmth, and anchored by a monolithic dark gray engineered stone reception desk. Spatial boundaries dissolve through frameless full-height mirrors and ultra-clear glass partitions, maintaining visual connectivity between raw power and controlled recovery.

MAXIMUS offers a replicable model for revitalizing obsolete urban infrastructure. Every material, light source, and curve is chosen to support the core ethos of pushing physical limits, resulting in a holistic space where brand identity, operational function, and spatial clarity converge.
