The Wave, Haikou

The Wave project is situated on Haidian Island, off the coast north of Haikou city in Hainan Province. It is in close proximity with the residential areas and the University of Hainan campus.

Steering away from the traditional malls, the Wave is a new retail destination that emphasize on the fusion of retail and lifestyle space to create a chill urban context for the locals and visitors to hangout and mingle.

We challenged the high-density ratio of the project with an open spatial planning which ties the retail space with the surrounding urban space and water feature. Bridges and featured spiral stairs flow in between these spaces and carve out interesting nodes at different levels. A wave-like canopy is designed to provide sun shading and rain proofing to the project, and bring the project to its iconic crescendo.
