FU GUAN

Fuguan is nestled deep within the Pearl Pagoda Scenic Garden, Suzhou's No. 69 classical garden. It is a hotel worth making a special trip for — "for its sake alone, one could journey all the way to Tongli."

The layout of a Ming Dynasty four-courtyard, three-hall residence has been fully restored: the front courtyard welcomes guests, the central hall hosts discussions, and the rear courtyard nourishes the spirit. The grain of aged timber and the textures left by time remain intact, while modern smart technology has been quietly integrated — a perfect fusion of old-world charm and new luxury. Bustling outside, a hidden paradise within — this is the most fitting description of the hotel.

Eleven rooms, eight room types — hardly any one of them is a standard answer. Notably, every room has its own private courtyard — a personal garden of one's own. Externally, it carries the grey tones and cool restraint of the garden; internally, it draws inward into a warmth of light wood, pale floors, and light-toned furniture, like coming home. The arrangement of furniture and the placement of light and shadow have been repeatedly deliberated; every sofa is scaled to allow an adult to lie down fully and at ease. Each room features artwork created from local art and storytelling, weaving a 400-year-old story into every detail.
