The space design was inspired by a true historical event, i.e., Ming treasure voyages. In line with the historical and cultural context, it presented a magnificent illustration of national bloom and people’s prosperity in an unprecedentedly imposing manner. Inspired by the façade of architecture, we used the evolution of the Chinese character “德” (virtue) as a design element throughout the design. Modern and concise straight lines were extended in the spatial structure to highlight the terse style and the visual impact of geometric shape. In part, swastika and circular arc are used to neutralize the hardness in straight lines and emphasize Chinese tenderness. In terms of materials, we largely adopted Eurasian wood grain stone with soft gloss on the walls and floors. These natural materials, reflecting water waves, mountainous contours, and geological patterns, give people the illusion of a naval exploration. In respect of colors, warm colors were used to create an atmosphere through their ability to visually enlarge the space. For example, white stone was mainly used on the ground floor, and matched with golden yellow and light brown; the second floor was mainly furnished with dark brown wood, and embellished with orange, light green, and cream colors.
