Urban renewal project of Huqiu core area, Suzhou, China

Suzhou has always been known for its gardens, and Huqiu is one of the most famous suburban hill gardens. The Tiger Hill area today is an important spatial node and famous scenic area in the western part of Suzhou's old city district. The project site is located on the south side of Huqiu Scenic Area. The urban design of Huqiu core area aims to comprehensively enhance and improve the appearance of Huqiu Scenic Area and the surrounding ecological environment, effectively protect historical and cultural resources, promote tourism development, and make Huqiu area the true core area of Wu Wenhua and the urban living room of Suzhou. Through in-depth study of the important roles played by Huqiu and Shantang River in the history of Suzhou, we have found the intersection of the site and Huqiu area in terms of "history and present" and "time and space". We regard the site as an integral part of the entire historical site to create a unique urban living room for modern Suzhou. As the prelude to the Huqiu Scenic Area and the Suzhou City Living Room with a rich cultural heritage, the design prioritizes the relationship between the site, architecture, Huqiu Pagoda, and the mountain pond river. The core content is to showcase and experience Wu culture, and to create a landscape with local traditional charm. The attitude towards history is to continue its charm, echo and develop the following three cultural and spatial characteristics: 1、 The Wind of Tiger Hill: Continuing the Humanistic Spirit of Tiger Hill and Showcasing the Peak of Wu Culture 2、 The Scenery of Tiger Hill: Designed with a focus on scenery, it is both touristic and livable, feasible and within reach 3、 The Form of Tiger Hill: a form that develops in harmony with traditional styles and has a contemporary atmosphere
In terms of overall design, the core open space belt of "Gusu Huayuan" will be created as a carrier for green urban life, public cultural activities, and festival ceremonies, and multiple sets of activity venues of different types and scales will be organized.
