The project is located in a bustling area of the East Fourth Ring Road in Chaoyang District, Beijing, with a total area of 130 square meters. The original layout was a conventional large two-bedroom apartment with a central entrance. However, the spatial layout and functional configuration could not meet the owner's pursuit of a high quality of life. The design, which presents the living room immediately upon entry, lacks the necessary privacy and rhythm in the space. The traditional room allocation mode makes the entire residence feel cramped and dull, visually lacking a sense of breathability and expansiveness. The closed layout not only disrupts interaction among family members but also limits the emotional connections between people within the space and their environment. The overall spatial layout focuses on functionality, practicality, flow, interactivity, and aesthetics. By reconfiguring the floor plan, the originally spacious guest bathroom is reduced in size, allowing for the addition of a storage system in the entrance hall. The introduction of screen elements cleverly delineates new areas and boundaries. The screens not only create a visual barrier but also ensure the privacy of the entryway, adding a sense of discreet and orderly ritual to the entire space. The boundaries between the kitchen, dining room, and living room are cleverly blurred through an open design, allowing the three spaces to naturally integrate and create a warm, inviting living atmosphere. Considering the owner's low frequency of kitchen use, the designer boldly employed a series of sliding and folding side doors to perfectly conceal the kitchen operation area within the facade, making the space more streamlined and tidy. A large number of everyday items are cleverly stored in hidden cabinets, perfectly blending storage functionality with aesthetic design. After the spatial transformation, the entire area ultimately presents a rich sense of layering, with three entrances from north to south and three from east to west. The depth and progression of the space are orderly established, achieving visual and functional balance and harmony in each area. It feels as if, on this journey through the space, the inhabitants can continually discover the beauty and surprises of life.
