SHIKISEN - Japanese FreshMart

Shikisen is a Japanese mart that portrays a perfect combination of traditional Japanese wet market and modern supermarket displays. The major material used in this project is pinewood, which is developed into wooden crates on walls, indicating the goods sold at Shikisen is 100% imported Japan Goods. Furthermore, the display racks and counters are applied with pinewood and red bricks, to indicate the organic and fresh goods delivery.



The mart is designed in conjunction with Malaysians shopping environments, which is typically spacious, with wide aisles to accommodate larger shopping carts and family shoppers. Meanwhile, every grocery type is divided into separate sections labelling vegetables, meat products, frozen foods and so on. And each section comes with different light box design, with the use of Japanese calligraphy words and illustrations. With these, it brings a better and cozy shopping experience to the shoppers.



Shoppers could also spot a 3D module of a fish on top of the wall, surrounded with wall mural of Japanese streets, some traditional Japanese lanterns and umbrella. The use of the decorations could further enhance the atmosphere, just like shopping in a Japanese supermarket.
