The Daizhuang Village Community Service Center

The Daizhuang Village Community Service Center, located in Daizhuang Village, Tianwang Town, Jurong City, Jiangsu Province, occupies a site of 10,176㎡ with a total building area of 5,035㎡ and a floor area ratio of 0.46. The project, designed in May 2022, is situated within a picturesque rice field, a key characteristic of the local agricultural industry. The design concept, "Rice Field Watcher, Village Reception Hall," integrates the surrounding natural landscape, positioning the building in an "trapezoid "-shaped layout that opens toward the rice fields. This creates a visual corridor that brings the rice field into the architecture, allowing the landscape to be experienced as part of the building’s interior space. The building serves as a symbolic "watcher" of the rice field, providing villagers with a space for both communal activities and quiet reflection.

Drawing inspiration from the sloped roofs of traditional local houses, the design seamlessly blends the building into the surrounding village fabric, enhancing a sense of identity and connection with the local vernacular. The building’s primary functions include community services, a rice exhibition center, and a multipurpose hall. The design emphasizes sustainability, with locally sourced materials used throughout. Wall panels and hanging panels are made from rice straw, which is processed into strawboard. These materials are not only cost-effective but also biodegradable and environmentally friendly, creating a harmonious integration with the golden rice fields around the building. This approach demonstrates a commitment to both functionality and environmental consciousness, making the Daizhuang Village Community Service Center a model of sustainable, community-focused architecture.
