Thrive Farmer's coffee brand was founded on the belief that through revenue-sharing with farmers, they could create a more sustainable and transparent supply chain, improving the livelihood of their farmers and the quality of their coffee. They were right. For years they were supplying coffee to partners across the country, but as they continued to grow they wanted to develop their own consumer-facing brand and hospitality experience. They tapped Brand Bureau to help them deliver their message to consumers and to translate their brand ethos into the interior design of a new cafe for Atlanta, Georgia. The Dairies Coffeehouse & Cold Brew Bar is a 14-tap nitro cold brew bar that serves the local community and, in doing so, a greater humanitarian mission. The space pays homage to the Thrive communities, while still feeling fresh and modern. Cafes often take on a breezy Australian-inspired aesthetic or a rustic farm-driven look, but our approach was to integrate a bit of both. We took advantage of the open modern architecture of the space - the bones are beautifully utilitarian, clean lines and exposed steel beams - and layered in warmer, natural elements. We focused on achieving the right balance between materiality and form, color and texture – modern light fixtures hang in front of rough exposed brick, and midcentury-inspired furniture is paired with custom weaving by artisans in Nicaragua. Inspired by the craft and tradition of coffee farmers, we created an art feature out of burlap coffee bags and farmers' work shirts, showing that these humble, functional materials can and should be celebrated as a piece of art. From an experience standpoint, we knew the space needed to be comfortable and inviting, but also wanted to leave ample room around the counter for ordering and for watching the baristas at the tap island. The double-sided tap tower has 28 tap handles, allowing baristas to quickly fill sparkling teas and cold brew beverages. Diverse seating arrangements accommodate everyone from solo guests to small groups, and ensure that every guest will have an interesting and different sightline.
