“Taiwanese Light Impressions” is a renovation project for a 50-year-old townhouse in Taoyuan. The design centers on the interplay of “light” and “memory.” Facing challenges such as a narrow layout, poor lighting, and aging structure, the designer opened the front and rear courtyards, added skylights, and used glass brick in bathrooms to allow natural light to flow throughout the three floors.
Original features like green marble floors, red brick walls, and staircase structures were preserved and restored through polishing and whitewashing. The color palette uses pure white and beige tones with curved features, rattan doors, and hollow railings to soften lines while maintaining the tactile warmth of traditional Taiwanese homes. Balancing function, aesthetics, sustainability, and memory, the design breathes new life into the old house, creating a dialogue between modern living and local architectural legacy.
