Guangzhou Poly The One

Located at the heart of Guangzhou’s Greater Bay Area, Guangzhou Poly The One rises above the urban core at the confluence of river, city, and future. Positioned on elevated ground overlooking the Pearl River, the project embraces a forward-looking vision of contemporary Guangzhou living—where nature, culture, and urban vitality converge.

Drawing inspiration from the Pearl River’s historic role as a catalyst for innovation and exchange, Cheng Chung Design (CCD) conceived the project under the theme “An Artistic Way of Life.” Renowned artists from China and abroad were invited to translate the river’s flowing energy and the city’s cultural depth into a curated series of artworks. Traditional Lingnan intangible cultural heritage techniques—such as Canton enamel, lacquer art, copper carving, and paper cutting—are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, narrating a story “born of water and thriving by water,” where daily life becomes a poetic dialogue with art, history, and place.

The spatial journey unfolds through a ceremonial sequence of three arrivals, each revealing a distinct realm. From sculpted stone screens inspired by river currents, to corridors adorned with auspicious motifs, and finally to monumental gilded bronze doors crafted by a national heritage master, the entrance establishes a dignified rhythm of progression and discovery.

Inside, the lobby interprets the philosophy of balance—strength and softness, movement and stillness—through soaring volumes, fluid curves, and cross-axis structures reminiscent of traditional martial arts wisdom. Materials, patterns, and lighting reference Lingnan architectural archetypes, while contemporary artworks echo the dynamism of Cantonese opera and the enduring vitality of the Pearl River.

The central atrium, framed by daylight and water reflections, draws from the concept of “four waters returning to the hall,” symbolizing harmony and abundance. Abstracted fish-scale patterns, structural references to historic Xiguan residences, and a palette of warm neutrals collectively create a calm yet resonant atmosphere rooted in regional identity.

Extending through art corridors, lounges, and social spaces, the project weaves Eastern craftsmanship with modern expression. From immersive installations to refined residential interiors, Imperial Pavilion ultimately redefines waterfront living as a cultural and spiritual journey—where tradition and innovation, land and water, art and life are seamlessly intertwined.
