About The Entry
This project is a revitalization of a century-old building from 1905 during the Guangxu era. Throughout history, this place was once a coastal pier where fleets set sail eastward. With the tides rising and falling, the mountains, seas, and local scenery here have accumulated and been passed down through time.
The design respects the original texture of the old building, opting for restoration instead of large-scale demolition, preserving the historical traces left by time. Focusing on lively markets, local characteristics, and lifestyle aesthetics, it practices the concept of 'slow food, local living,' blending Xigang's native maritime culture with international avant-garde trends to create a magnet for youth culture.
The space incorporates coastal life scenes, gathering seafood processing, freshly roasted seafood, local specialties, artisan workshops, coffee, and tea in a variety of formats. People can taste the ocean's natural delicacies, sit by the sea in quiet reflection, gather around a stove for casual chats, and feel the waves and sea breeze.
This approach allows historical buildings to escape being mere static relics. Contemporary design language meets local mountain-sea culture, where deep historical heritage coexists with vibrant everyday life, empowering Xigang, paying tribute to Qinhuangdao, and giving the century-old port a continuous vitality.
